Sometimes a person may have a propensity toward healthcare without any official training. The question that often arises is: can one turn a natural tendency into a career without going after a medical degree? And if so, what are the possibilities?

Think creatively because the possibilities are wide open.

Obvious work choices might be a nurse’s aide or a dental assistant. These two positions are in high demand and do not require years of medical school, yet, they fulfill a very serious and needed role in medical practice. Other similar occupations are therapist aides, hospital orderlies/attendants and even veterinary assistants. All of these positions are service oriented and necessary in a healthcare environment.

One team player that no hospital or doctor’s office can do without is the medical assistant. From greeting patients to taking vital signs to keeping records, the medical assistant is the one person that no one else in the facility can do without. So, if you are an organized person with a flair for people plus an interest in the field of medicine, you may have found the career of a lifetime.  This career does need some school time but it is a great choice for many people interested in medicine and service to others.

An area of healthcare that few think about is food. Dietary technicians are an absolute necessity at any hospital. The work is hard and constant. Nutritious meals must be fixed for staff, patients and visitors and be suitable to each patient’s dietary needs. Talk about a challenge!

If you are already a nurse and looking for different options in your profession, there are valuable online sources for nursing employment that can open a vast world of choices that are available in the healthcare industry.
